    NYSED Special Education

  • In New York State, parents who choose to homeschool their children must ensure that the student receives an education equivalent to what is provided in public schools.

Parents/guardians are required to submit a written notice of intent to homeschool to the school district superintendent.

For more information on the specific requirements and guidelines for homeschooling in NYS, please visit the New York State Education Department's website.

  • The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law that addresses the educational needs and rights of homeless children and youth.

It ensures homeless students have equal access to education by providing funding for educational programs and services, removing enrollment barriers, and promoting school stability.

The act also requires schools to identify and support homeless students so they can receive the necessary resources to succeed academically.
